Summer Wedding Hair and Makeup Tips with Lori J White

As I was sweating my face off the other day, I dreamed of dunking my head into a tub of foundation to make me look like a normal person again !

I've Fallin' in Love...with a dress!

Red is the color of passion and love and is my favorite color.  I love love love red - especially a deep red color. A few days ago, while I was looking into purchasing a dress for an upcoming photo session with my friend Adam of Imagine Photography, I came across an Ebay auction for this dress.  And I have fallen head over heels in love with this dress!

After a bit of research, I've learned that the red dress is the same designer as my own wedding dress - Maggie Sottero!  Maggie Sottero tends to design asymmetrical dresses with a side gathering and I've realized that I'm a fan of this style.

The thought of wearing a red or a non white/ivory wedding dress is odd for some (I thought about it however I changed my mind for some reason) but it is gaining popularity as brides are starting to do away with some of the wedding traditions.

Would you wear a red dress on your wedding day?

1940s Bridal Photo Shoot

A few months ago, I was on the phone with Candace Simpson from Elegant Images discussing my sister's wedding and we got around to talking about our experiences at our own weddings. There were a few crucial shots that were missed at my own wedding and her experience was not too great either. Somehow she brought up the idea of always wanting to do a vintage bridal shoot with the 1940s hairdo and makeup as well as a birdcage veil. I, of course, jumped at the chance! She told me to find the veil and we'll schedule a time! Ebay has always been my friend. When there is something I can't find because it's too exotic, I always resort to ebay. Well, I found my veil on ebay, scheduled our appointment, got my hair done with Regina Roncone, a very talented family friend who's taught classes on 1940s hair, did my own makeup (I was taught by my mother in law who's a former makeup artist), and on one cold February afternoon we did our photo shoot!

Candace never travels alone and so I wasn't surprised when she brought 3 other photographers with her. Krystaly and Matt Koch of Sheer Elegance Photography arrived along with their friend Heidi Lee. I later found out that Heidi is the mom of one of my husband's tennis buddies from his teenage years. What a small world!

They were all so much fun to work with and I'm sure they shot thousands of images.

Anyway, below are a few of the photos:
